Goodwill Hawaii has opened a new attended donation POD on Maui at the Queen Kaahumanu Center (275 W. Kaahumanu Avenue), bringing the total number of donation locations on the island to four. The POD, marked with Goodwill Hawaii’s new branding, will be open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Maui residents can also drop off their gently used household items and clothing to the Goodwill Hawaii store at 250 Alamaha Street as well as donation centers located at the Kahului Shopping Center or Maui Disposal Redemption and Recycle Center in Wailuku.
“We are excited to expand our presence on Maui as it allows us to be able to serve more people in the community there” said Katy Chen, chief administrative officer for Goodwill Hawaii. “By donating to Goodwill, you are helping us create local jobs.”
Goodwill is currently running a holiday drive through January 9, 2016 with a goal of reaching 100,000 boxes of donations to support its nonprofit mission: to help people who have employment barriers to reach their full potential and become self-sufficient. The goal is being tracked at Goodwill Hawaii’s newly launched microsite, goodwillhawaii.org/holiday, where donors can also calculate the impact of their donations and hear and read stories of the local people whose lives have been touched by the local nonprofit’s job training and placement programs.
In the past year, Goodwill Hawaii has served more than 11,000 individuals and placed nearly 1,500 people into meaningful employment through programs funded by the sale of donations at 11 retail stores statewide. Ninety percent of every dollar earned funds programs that provide educational advancement, job training and placement and career development for individuals with employment barriers.
